I love living in Michigan. Especially during the fall season! It's incredible the way the trees light up in blushing shades of red, orange and yellow, making all of us Michiganders wish it would never end. October is the most beautiful month in my eyes. Not only is the weather perfect to take a stroll and crunch the leaves beneath your feet, but it's also cider mill, pumpkin, apple pie and Halloween season. Simply, the best. While I've been incredibly busy lately with work, the blog, house hunting with my boyfriend, and trying to squeeze in family/friend time--I'm still trying to fit in small moments to enjoy the atmosphere here before subzero temperatures arrive (look forward to me probably endlessly complain about how no matter how many layers I stuff underneath my coat, it's still cold.)
Today I'm featuring one of my fall-inspired thrift designs. I was immediately drawn to the green color (my favorite) and the fabric, which has suede qualities. Originally, it was floor length, zipped down the back and appeared to be a set from afar. Very interesting, but I knew that it would be a fabulous shirt. Once again, apologies to the horrible-quality before pictures and my lion-hair mess. I was a little too excited to get started on this project. Desperate times call for self-timed pictures!
Before 90's Green Dress
I cut the backside out, so I would no longer be constrained by the zipper and shortened the hem into a shirt. Next, I added the flannel where the back was originally. And, wah-lah! I had a little difficulty having the shirt lay correctly after adjusting the width, but it was nothing a hem-ripper and sewing machine couldn't handle. I love the way it turned out! It looks perfect with a warm wool scarf and your favorite fall boots.
